Prepare your driver work history before you apply

Organise dates, equipment experience, route preferences and recruiter questions for a clearer driver job application.

A short, accurate work-history sheet makes applications easier to complete and helps you explain your experience consistently. Keep it updated and share sensitive documents only through a verified hiring process.

Create a factual work-history sheet

List each employer, your job title, start and finish month, vehicle or equipment type and main duties. Check uncertain dates against your own records and flag anything you still need to verify.

  • Route type: local, regional, dedicated or OTR.
  • Equipment you have actually operated and how recently.
  • Relevant loading, customer-service or dispatch responsibilities.
  • Licences and endorsements you currently hold.
  • Your availability and preferred working area.

Make experience easy to understand

Use specific descriptions such as 'regional dry-van routes' or 'multi-stop local deliveries' when they accurately describe your work. Do not add tanker, flatbed or other experience just because it appears in a vacancy.

Explain gaps clearly

A brief truthful explanation is more useful than invented dates. Prepare to explain a break in employment, a change of industry or a move, while keeping unnecessary personal details private.

Keep a simple application tracker

Record the vacancy link, job title, location, application date and recruiter contact. Add the next action and any confirmed pay or schedule information. This prevents duplicate applications and helps you recognise which opportunity a recruiter is calling about.

Check the role before submitting

Compare the listed licence, location and experience requirements with your own details. Ask about unclear requirements rather than claiming a qualification you do not hold. Save the job description so you can refer to it during the interview.

Common questions

Quick answers

Can I reuse my work-history sheet?

Yes. Keep the facts consistent, update them when your experience changes and highlight the experience relevant to each position.
